When in bear country, it's common sense to take along bear pepper spray protection.
Bear pepper spray is very effective for attacking bears.
Hikers use bells on their boot laces to be heard. Preventing them from surprising a bear. If you come across a bear, do not approach it. Back away while watching the bear. Increasing the distance between you and the bear. If the bear keeps following you, change direction. If the bear continues, stand your ground. Stay in a group if there is more than one of you. Scare it off by yelling, shouting, clapping your hands. Try to persuade the bear to leave you alone. If you find yourself being approached or attacked by a bear, use your bear pepper spray FAST.
Bear attacks are rare, and most can be avoided. Always maintain a healthy respect for wildlife. Never feed wild animals, and be sure to keep a safe distance. Common sense goes along way.
